Gazing at Mount Tai

Du Fu · 736

What shall I say of the Great Peak? The ancient dukedoms spread across its slopes; Creation has poured in it beauty and mystery; The north slope is darkness, the south is light.

Swelling clouds sweep across my chest; Returning birds fly right into my straining eyes. One day I must stand on the topmost summit And look down on all the other mountains.
